What Makes Us Different

FIRST VISIT PREPARATION

We understand first-hand your confusion, from questions about insurance benefits and costs to wondering if the Focus-MD approach is for your family. We have specially trained, compassionate patient coordinators who walk you through the new patient procedure.
We want to start getting to know the patient before you even arrive, so we’ll ask you for any previous medical records or testing that has been done. We require patients to complete our registration online including online assessments from patients, parents, teachers, and other professionals who have been involved in caring for you or your child. This helps us maximize our time together at the first visit.

QB TESTING

We use the QbTest, which is an FDA-cleared, computerized test created specifically to measure the core symptoms of ADHD: inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. The QbTest uses a motion-tracing camera and continuous performance tasks to provide objective, qualtifiable data. It compares your child's performance to that of others in their age and gender group, helping to confirm if your or your child's symptoms align with an ADHD profile. The QbTest helps establish a baseline before starting medication. We then repeat the test to objectively monitor their progress and measure the treatment's effectiveness. The first QbTest provides objective, unbiased data on your child's ADHD symptoms. By performing an initial test off medication and a second follow-up test on medication, we can clearly track their progress and ensure the treatment plan is working as intended. This process is important for determining the most effective dose and preventing over-medication.

DIAGNOSIS

We provide clear, evidence-based answers the same day as your appointment. After a thorough evaluation that follows the professional guidelines of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the American Academy of Pediatrics, we inform patients whether they have ADHD. Just as importantly, we also communicate when a patient does not have ADHD. If additional information is needed to reach a confident conclusion, we will let you know and continue working closely with families to ensure an accurate diagnosis. As physicians and nurse practitioners, our providers’ primary commitment is to your health: we provide thorough assessments without unnecessary delay, balancing careful consideration with timely decision-making.

TREATMENT OPTIONS

Once we establish the diagnosis, we work with you to individualize a treatment plan based on the best available science.
There’s also an art to ADHD treatment—our compassion, respect for your concerns and experience ensure that the patient and his/her family are treated thoughtfully. When medication is recommended, our goal is to help patients achieve self control. We never want to trade ADHD symptoms for symptoms of overmedication!

FOLLOW-THROUGH

Consistent follow-up is one of the most effective ways to achieve better outcomes in ADHD care.
ADHD medications can have side effects, and it’s natural for families to have concerns given the stories they may have heard. Between visits, our providers are accessible through the patient portal. We schedule regular appointments every few weeks to carefully adjust and identify the optimal medication dose for each patient. This process, which we call dose optimization, ensures that the patient receives the right treatment while feeling supported every step of the way. After the optimal dose is found, we continue regular follow up visits every three months to monitor for changes or new problems as well as re-evaluate the need for continuing the medication. Medication doses are tailored as needed, and ongoing behavioral or academic concerns are addressed, alongside discussions of sleep, nutrition and other behavioral factors.

TREATMENT OPTIMIZATION

Our approach balances thoroughness and efficiency—using appropriate time and testing to arrive at an accurate diagnosis without rushing or unnecessary, drawn-out evaluations that drive up cost or complexity.
The follow-up approach is thoughtful and centered on the patient, with treatment tailored to individual needs. Some patients may require no medication, while others benefit from carefully calibrated dosing to achieve the best outcomes. Reassurance comes from progress and access. When things are going well, you feel it. If concerns arise, your provider remains available, responsive, and informed. We partner with you to develop a personalized planone that honors who you are, supports your goals, and helps you feel more focused, confident and fully yourself.
